I’m joining the movement to Run for Autism. But I need your help.
Why am I running 70km this October? Because 70% of Autistic people face mental health challenges.
I’m running towards a more inclusive world where Autistic Australians have the opportunity to thrive.
I received my official diagnosis of AuDHD earlier this year, which only confirmed what I had gradually come to suspect over my life. A lot of women receive late stage diagnoses due to the differences in presentation.
Throughout my life I was aware that I was different; that I struggled with things that seemed to come easily to others. I, like so many people with ASD, have also had a lifetime of trying to manage challenges with my mental health.
So far, this year has been a gradually process of self-advocacy, unmasking, and making changes and allowances in my life to help me navigate life a little easier.
However, mental health support in Tasmania, especially for those with neurodivergence, is almost impossible to access.
