My Activity Tracking

My target 40 kms

40km running and 20km walking  in 7 days!!

Thank you for your extraordinary moral and financial support

I have raised over $4500 with your help and overall with all participants over $1million dollars.

Best wishes always

30km in 5 days!

Hi everyone!

I've completed 30km running in 5 days.

I have another 10km running to complete in the next few days!

And I have a few days left to meet my target of $4000 in fundraising!

Thank you so much for all your support!

As I'm running, I'm reflecting on each of you who have donated and how you've supported me across the last few years as I've navigated parenting with extra needs.

I am thrilled that my son is doing so well and put it all down to the help I received from ASPECT.

Thank you!!!

Run for Autism - What's this all about anyway?

When your child receives a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum disorder it can be very overwhelming. There's a lot of self blame - I did this to my child, it was something I ate in pregnancy. No, it wasn't. Beyond the multiple possible reasons for the occurrence of autism, is a far more important question.

How are you going to manage now that you know what is happening for your child?

It becomes irrelevant what caused it.

It becomes urgent to get your child the help they need to develop as quickly as possible in the window of time where children are most receptive to learning.

Aspect is one of the organisations that provides evidence based support, school options, information days, support for funding applications, an information line, the support that you really need in the early days and the support that you go back to when you get lost later on too.

My son is much loved, much wanted, and planned. I am so proud of him and all that he has achieved.

He is a strong swimmer and a strong reader. He has many gifts. He can see things at a very long distance away and can do accents, voices, characters and write interesting poetry. He creates amazing artworks, but only if they aren't called art.

Like most children on the spectrum, he struggles with social engagement, with classroom activities, with following instructions. He doesn't like social pleasantries and doesn't understand why anyone would need or want to use them. He will pick a fight with someone over why they used the word Yucky to describe a feeling when there are many more accurate words available to describe an emotion.

By raising money for ASPECT, I'm saying thank you for all the support in achieving funding for my son's social therapies that assist him with the areas of engagement that he finds most difficult; being flexible, taking turns, sharing, staying calm, physical regulation, core stability and more.

I've run 20km in 3 days and due to run another 20km in the next 4 days. HALF WAY!! (I haven't counted the three and a half weeks of training I did in the lead up.)

There's still time to sponsor if you would like to and you can do so anonymously if that feels better for you.

Thank you in advance!

Felicity xx

3,2,1… GO!

Today’s the start of Run for Autism! What a terrific start to the fundraising run with messages of support and some new donations too!

I’ve increased my fundraising target to $4000 given that I’ve managed to raise approx $2,500 and think I can manage to drive forward for another $1,500 with some donations. A tenner is fabulous if you have it to spare!

I completed 10Km in 56min and a warm up and warm down with walking and stretching.

My 40km goal for this fundraising venture is 1/4 reached. Yay!!

I’ve just scheduled a further 3 x 10Km on three separate days this week) so will update again when I’ve finished another 1/4.

Feeling strong after today and boosted by the amazing moral support and financial donations from so many friends and family from near and far!

Many thanks,
Felicity xx

Training Progress

Thank you so much to everyone who has donated or offered moral support!

Training is going really well and each time I am increasing speed slightly and lengthening the time on the treadmill.

I went on a lengthy walk on a day off running (which is also part of the training) and realised how much faster I was because of the running training!

Going well!

More to come in the next 10 days before the run starts on Sunday 31st October!

Hope everyone is staying well and healthy!

Gyms have opened in Sydney

Today Gyms reopened for the first time in 108 days!

I was very pleased as it was raining quite hard when I woke up, and prefer not to run in the wet outside.

How luxurious to run on the treadmill for the first time in so long.

Thank you everyone for your support!

I've reached 3/4 of my fundraising goal and slowly increasing my training and strength work. I am also doing daily yoga to keep my joints as flexible as possible whilst I train.

Believing in Tomorrow

If I hadn't have received support from ASPECT, I wouldn't have started believing in tomorrow. Through their support, my son was able to access funding for speech therapy and occupational therapy which have been absolutely essential for his development. I am in training for this fundraising event because I believe in early intervention, support for people on the spectrum and for awareness and inclusion for all those who struggle to integrate. I hope to receive some awesome support for this process with all the funds going to ASPECT to continue their support for people on the spectrum. Thank you for visiting! F x

I'm running for....

I’m running for autism to help create a world where no-one on the autism spectrum is left behind.

I've set my challenge and I'll be running from Sunday 31st October - 7th November while raising much needed funds to support people on the autism spectrum.

An estimated 1 in every 70 people is on the spectrum. Along with their family members, this means autism is a part of daily life for over a million Australians.

People on the spectrum see, hear, feel and experience the world differently. For many, simply coping with the everyday can lead to confusion, anxiety and isolation.

By coming together and taking action, we can help provide opportunities for people on the autism spectrum to participate, engage and thrive in the world around them.

Help make my run challenge count and show your support by donating today!

Autistic kids are wonderful, they give another perspective to life and the reactions of other people towards our kids is coming from lack of education and fear. Thanks for doing this and introducing us to this association
