This October, I am running, walking and cycling for Autistic women and girls!
During the month of October, I will be running, walking and cycling, often accompanied by little Leif, to raise funds for neuro-affirming diagnostic and support services for Autistic Australians.
In 2020, I received a diagnosis myself through Aspect - Autism Spectrum Australia and as a result, my life changed for the better. However, sometimes I wonder if outcomes would have better if I had have been diagnosed earlier.
For example, would an earlier diagnosis have facilitated more support , acceptance and inclusion among my peers and in the community and potentially prevented the development of what became a very debilitating eating disorder? Would I have had been more equipped to understand and advocate for my sensory sensitivities and support needs and be able to avoid potentially triggering and traumatic experiences?
I personally did not receive a diagnosis or any associated support until I was 27 years old. I am running for better outcomes for the next generation.
Every contribution, large or small, will help.
Thank you so much for your support!
