We're joining the movement to Run for Autism. But we need your help!
Dear friends,
This October, Marc and I will be taking part in Aspect’s Run for Autism, raising funds and awareness for better mental health support for autistic Australians.
Around 70% of autistic Australians experience at least one mental health condition during their lives — more than three times the rate of the non-autistic population. Barriers such as late diagnosis, lack of access to neurodivergent-specific supports (like autism-aware mental health care, therapies, and workplace accommodations), and the invisibility of autism in society all compound these challenges. This creates stigma and misunderstanding, leading to isolation and poorer mental health outcomes.
As an autistic person, I know how important the right supports, understanding, and community can be in reducing stigma and helping autistic people feel a true sense of belonging. Running is not only a great way to boost physical and mental health — it’s also a fitting way to highlight the importance of self-regulation and wellbeing, making it the perfect activity to amplify the aims of Run for Autism.
Just as important as services and therapies is having supportive people, inclusive workplaces, and welcoming communities. When autistic people are given understanding, acceptance, and the right accommodations, we can thrive and give our best back to society. Real disability inclusion benefits everyone.
Every dollar raised through this run goes towards helping autistic Australians access life-changing assessments, therapies, education, and community services. By donating, you’re not only funding vital supports — you’re also cheering us on, kilometre by kilometre, as Marc and I take on 70km this October.
We’d be so grateful for your support — every contribution, big or small, helps create change and will keep both of us motivated as we run this challenge together.
With gratitude,
Matilda & Marc 💛
