Niamh Athy

I’m joining the movement to Run for Autism. But I need your help.

Why am I running 70km this October?

Because 70% of Autistic people experience mental health challenges — not because of who they are, but because masking, misunderstanding, and just getting through the day can be exhausting.

I’ve seen how people treat autism like it’s something bad or taboo — like you’re not meant to talk about it. I’ve seen people called weird, too much, too sensitive. But even small things like access to headphones, a quiet space, or support that actually fits can make a massive difference in someone’s life.

I’m doing this fundraiser because I want that kind of support to be more available, earlier, and easier to access — things like proper assessments, specialist therapies, and education that actually makes sense for how people experience the world.

If you’re able to donate, I’d really appreciate it. You’ll be helping more Autistic people in Australia get the support they deserve — and helping me get through 70km, which is… a lot of kilometres.
