We are joining the movement to Run for Autism. But we need your help.

Hi Everyone,

This year’s Run for Autism will be a little different for me — I’m thrilled to be joined by someone very special: my 9-year-old daughter, Kelsey.

Kelsey was diagnosed with Autism around 3 years ago, and this year she’s taking on the challenge alongside me. For every kilometre Kelsey runs, I’ll be doubling it — if she runs 50km, I’ll run 100km. She’s incredibly excited, not only for the personal challenge but also for the opportunity to raise awareness and support others like her.

Autistic people see, hear, feel, and experience the world differently. Autism is a lifelong developmental condition that affects how a person thinks, feels, interacts with others, and responds to their environment. It’s often referred to as a “hidden disability” because it isn’t always immediately visible.

Each Autistic person is unique — with their own strengths, challenges, preferences, and personality. Some may face significant difficulties in daily life, including heightened stress and a sense of isolation due to challenges with social interaction and sensory processing. These factors can contribute to mental health struggles, which is why early intervention and strong community support are so important.

With access to the right therapies and inclusive environments, Autistic individuals can thrive. That’s why events like Run for Autism are so important — they not only raise vital funds for services and support, but also help foster understanding and inclusion in our communities.

I’d love your support as Kelsey and I take on this challenge together. Whether that’s through donations, spreading awareness, or simply learning more about Autism, every little bit helps. You can find more information and resources on the Aspect website.

Quick Facts about Autism:

  • Autism is a lifelong developmental condition affecting communication, interaction, and sensory processing.

  • It's often described as a “hidden disability” because it may not be outwardly visible.

  • Around 70% of Autistic people experience mental health challenges, largely due to a lack of autism-friendly environments.

  • The “spectrum” reflects the wide range of strengths, challenges, and needs across Autistic individuals.

  • Early diagnosis and specialist support can significantly enhance quality of life.

Thank you for reading, and thank you for supporting this journey — it means a lot to both Kelsey and me.

Warm regards,
Scott & Kelsey
